Star lovers and planet huggers unite behind this year's Earth Hour.

This Saturday night, energy-conservation, wildlife, and astronomy groups around the world have a plea for each of us: Turn out the lights! March 28, 2009, from 8:30 to 9:30pm, marks the second annual Earth Hour, a global exercise in saving energy and recalling the natural night sky. During that rolling hour participants worldwide will dim nonessential outdoor lights, look around, and consider how we waste electricity, often produced by burning fossil fuels.

Reducing light pollution is a quadruple win. It’s one small step against global warming. It’s good for sleep and health; circadian disruption may abet a slew of ills, from cancer to depression. It restores essential nocturnal habitat for many creatures, from plankton to moths to migrating birds. And it restores the glories of the night sky, humankind’s original source of wonder and inspiration.

During last year’s Earth Hour 2.7 million Chicago-area residents trimmed their juice use by 7 percent and saved 818 megawatts, according to the Cascade Sierra Club, a sponsor of this year’s Seattle Earth Hour. But “Seattle made only a modest effort to turn out the lights during Earth Hour 2008. This time as an officially participating city we hope to do better.”
Alas, this weather’s not made for skywatching; Saturday’s forecast is cloudy with a chance of rain. So you won’t likely see the Milky Way. But you can still discover the joys of cutting glare and saving kilowatts.

go SOUNDERS!!!

Today is historic in the Seattle area - the UW huskies play in Portland while a few hours north their city stirs in excitment... it's opening day for the Seattle Sounders FC. Today Seattle becomes a soccer city!

I was in Seattle late last night and what I saw and felt last night - no words could ever do it justice. The lights on the Space Needle were bright blue with the top shining in emerald green - it was dark but you could still see a the Sounders flag waving if you looked hard enough. Just to the west you could see the triumphant arches of the Pacific Science Center - also shining blue and green. Driving down the viaduct past the downtown area - several Sounder posters and flags lined the waterfront. And then suddenly I saw the most amazing thing... Qwest Field in all of it's glory. Luminous green lights lit of the roof top with enormous strobe lights circulating the building calling all soccer fans and tugging at my own heart... I have never felt so much excitement in that moment as I realized - tomorrow - Seattle becomes a soccer city :)

Today is that day - raise up your scarves Seattle! Go SOUNDERS!

This is a very special post for me... Anyone that knows Kenji and all this ish that's gone one w/ his car in the past few months... they know it's been a rough road. Thankfully he has a supportive team, family, and good friends to help him out. The first show of the season just took place last weekend - Bond of Bellevue. Lots of amazing cars and a lot of competition in general. Kenji didn't take home the Lexus class; however he one up'd and snagged the BEST 4 DOOR trophy! All in all; Team Menace took home 4 trophies - good job guys!

I don't know who to give credit to for the amazing pics and the feature but thank you :)

Congrats to Kenji and the rest of Team Menace - one show down for the season... what next?

First - Ms. Angela aka 1st Princess; not only is she a full time student getting her edumacation on; but she can out eat anyone and then school you in poker and pool any day plus she's hot! sorry fellas - she taken.
