Snow Day!

I'm snowed it at home! Thank goodness I was too lazy to get up this morning. The road to get to the freeway is littered w/ spun out cars and our freeway exit is blocked by jackknifed trucks! It will probably be gone tomorrow morning but I'll still enjoy this random day off. Just got out of bed and it's 11:30 - oh yes! gonna sit on my ars and finish wrapping gifts then watch some random movies and do nothing!
It's too cold to go out and take pics so I'll be lazy and upload one - This is the map of Seattle freeways - don't get it twisted though; green means it's open bc there are 5 cars on the road... that big patch of black is where we are! HAH

If you venture out today - just be safe!

Rob Dyrdek returns, finally!

I'm a huge fan of Rob and Big. Don't really know why but I loved the damn show and was so sad when it ended... BUT I'm thrilled to hear that there will be another Rob Dyrdek show airing in Febuary. From http://skateboarding.transworld.net/2008/10/25/rob-dyrdeks-fantasy-factory-preview/:

"And you thought Rob Dyrdek had it good. Dude’s got it even gooder: his new MTV show Fantasy Factory has been in production for a while now, and DC finally leaked some photos. The show revolves around the Fantasy warehouse in L.A. which is basically a Skate Plaza/basketball facility/toymaking/havoc-wreaking mash-up. Some new characters will also be in the mix, including his new bulldog puppy Beefy, an SUV called Stormtroopin’, and a 3-wheeled car called Hot Crap that’s supposedly faster than a Ferrari. There’s no official premiere date for the show, so keep checking its MySpace page. "

This is his freakin office; surrounded by a skate park!! WOW!

Gingy Breads

Another tradition during the Seattle Holidays... the amazing Gingerbread House displays @ the Sheraton Hotel. We did a sneak run through last weekend - no camera w/ us; just our cell phones. My pics are horrible so I'm stealing Kenji's! This one is hands down my favorite! it's a Nintendo ds w/ the Mario theme. It was so ornate and detail. Complete w/ a Rainbow Road, King Kuppa, Toad, and coins!

This is an annual fundraiser for the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Northwest. For more info please check out their website here: http://www.jdrfnorthwest.org/events/

It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas…

I heart the holidays! I know it’s the biggest increase in stress in most ppls lives. But at this point in time I’m just high on the holiday spirit. FINALLY. I realize there’s a lot of things that build that up for me. It starts out w/ the book… I’m sure most of you are laughing bc you know all about “the book”. I have a Christmas book/binder that comes out around the 2nd week of November and it stays out until the end of the year. It’s filled w/ all kinds of lists and ideas, dates, events, gift wrapping notes, recipes and addresses. By the end of the season it doesn’t really close anymore. It’s my holiday survival guide. I can trust it to keep me sane and “organized” in these busy weeks.

So I’m reaching into the book right now to present you with “Myra’s guide to get into the holiday spirit” for those that are lacking in the department. My first comments will be general and my suggestions will follow below… some might not make sense to you so just ask!

Drink something w/ Peppermint
Classic: white chocolate peppermint mocha, extra peppermint stirred w/ whip @ Starbucks

Start looking at “holiday event calendars” and pencil in dates to go see things.
Christmas Ships, Bellevue Holiday Lane, Zoolights, Gingerbread Lane, etc

Walk through Downtown and enjoy the lights and the hustle and bustle
Stare at the Macy’s star, see the Westlake tree, the carousel changes every year

Get your tree and decorations situated.
You’d be amazed how much lights and some old ornaments can memorize someone.

Listen to some holiday music
Nsync Christmas “oh Holy Night” AMAZING! Boyz II Men “Let it Snow” and The Home Alone Christmas Soundtrack

Browse online at “the seasons” hottest gifts online via google or msn.

Start updating your address book and addressing cards
Receiving cards in the mail might be old school but it’s still fun.

Jack Frost scent from Yankee Candle
Just go smell it!

Drop some change in the red bucket.
That pocket change you gave up to the guy that opened the Mall door for you goes a long way w/ the Salvation Army.

Start gift wrapping
Nothing says Christmas like tape stuck to your ars and ribbon bits in your hair as you lose your scissors 5 times under some tissue.

Watch some holiday movies
All time favorite: Home Alone 2: Lost in NY. Other suggestions: Santa Clause 1-3, Serendipity, The Holiday, A Christmas Story

Spend some time catching up w/ friends in general
Lots of ppl come home/head out, etc; a simple happy holiday greeting goes a long way. The more you say it, the more you hear it, thus the more you feel it.

Lastly, give more of yourself
Weather its donating winter cloths, volunteering at a food bank, or helping your mom w/ the dishes, things money can’t buy…

Happy holidays to you and yours and best wishes for the new year!

Fight Night

PS Enjoy CAZADORES responsibly. It's the one w/ the deer on it!

Christmas Ship Festival

I'm all about traditions and one that I am very proud of is the Argosy Christmas Ship Festival. The owners of the company are dear friends, no, family. This company has grown a lot since I worked there many years ago. The Christmas Ship Festival is like a floating parade. It has all the aspects, lots of people, music, lights, and a TON of holiday spirit.

Living in Seattle, there is a 1 to 8 ratio of boats to people. No really! I learned that at Argosy. For every 8 ppl in the city there is 1 boat. And with all the waterfront area's and lakes this is a beautiful way to celebrate the season and the city's parks.

I invite you and yours to take a moment out of your hustle and bustle of the holiday season and come watch. The Christmas Ship festival runs every single night from December 1st to the 23rd with 2 different waterfront performances. Each night features a different choir and different locations. Click the picture below and have a look for yourself.

Our tradition is to attend the largest and brightest night which is the finale on the 23rd. The best spot --> Gasworks park or anywhere on Lake Union. The entire lake is covered w/ lights from various boats w/ the Seattle skyline in the background it's definlty a sight to see. Join us :)Dress warm - it's Seattle afterall!

Stress-Fighting Snacks - ohhhhhh Snacks!

I love snacks and a friend sent me this article cuz well, I stress a lot so why not combine the 2? SCORE! After reading through most of these I have to comment on each one... go ahead; enjoy :)

http://www.bellybytes.com/recipes/beatstress.shtml

Twenty Stress-Fighting Snacks
All of the following snacks were designed with flavor and stress-busting nutrition in mind, so you get the biggest nutritional bang for your bite while protecting your body and brain from the ravages of stress.

The European Snack
Top a piece of toasted nut bread with an ounce of low-fat cheese and slices of an apple. Serve with orange juice.
how is this European? low-fat, hahah no thanks

Sweet and Creamy
Spread fat-free cream cheese over fat-free whole-wheat crackers and top with mango chutney. Serve with a glass of calcium-fortified soy milk.
agian, fat free? what is that. cream cheese on crackers check, milk ok, chutney? nope.

Vegetable Dip
Dip raw vegetables (bell peppers, broccoli, baby carrots, and zucchini) in fat-free ranch dressing. Serve with sparkling apple juice.
ok this one I could do, minus the fat free part.

Fruit Tortilla
Spread soy butter and a little all-fruit jam on a heated tortilla; fill it with fresh fruit, such as peach slices and strawberries. Roll it into a burrito.
uh, tortilla = taco night buffer. no thanks on the fruit addition, where's my seasoned taco meat?

Tropical Parfait
Layer tropical fruits like banana, mango, pineapple or papaya with low-fat yogurt and low-fat granola in a parfait glass.
yeah banana's and maybe some granola but that's it for this one.

Healthy Dippers
Cut corn tortillas into eight wedges and bake at 350 degrees for nine minutes or until crisp.
buy a bag of tortilla chips; maybe some fat free ones, same thing?

Apple Snack
Drizzle apple wedges with nonfat caramel sauce.
Finally! One I'd actually eat. Yes I'll take it.

Mini-Tomato Bowl
Fill hollowed-out cherry tomatoes with tuna salad, hummus or leftover couscous.
ew. nuff said

Celery Log
Stuff celery stalks with almond butter; sprinkle with cranberries.
oh, this one sounds good... i'd prefer the celery w/ some boneless wings w/ classic sauce and ranch on the side :)

One-Minute Bagel
Top half a toasted whole-wheat bagel with hummus and thin slices of red pepper.
uh... i'll take that fat free cream cheese now.

Shrimp Round
Dollop cucumber slices with fat-free cream cheese, a cooked shrimp and a drizzle of cocktail sauce.
sounds tasty

Sweet and Crunch
Stuff almonds into dates or pitted dried plums.
how about just the plums alone? sounds ok to me.

Salt and Crunch
Top a wheat cracker with tuna mixed with fat free mayonnaise and a sweet-pickle slice.
yes, minus the pickle... not a fan.

Peanut Butter Candy
Mix equal amounts of peanut butter, toasted wheat germ and honey. Spread on a whole-wheat crackers and serve with orange juice.
PB check, cracker check, oj check.

Double Cinnamon
Dunk a toasted slice of cinnamon-raisin bread in low-fat apple-cinnamon yogurt. Serve with kiwi slices.
i'd eat the bread toasted w/ some brummel & brown and the kiwi (maybe).

Melon Bowl
Fill half a cantaloupe with lemon yogurt and top with whole-grain cereal.
yum

Zesty Orange
Sprinkle crystallized ginger over mandarin orange slices. Serve with milk or soy milk.
maybe not on that crystallized ginger but ok on the rest.

Mini-Pizza
Toast a whole-wheat English muffin; top with pizza sauce, low-fat cheese and steamed vegetables. Broil for one minute or until the cheese bubbles.
why ruin te pizza thought? pan crust supreme from pizza hut... fatty mcfatty yet so good!

Pina Colada Shake
In a blender, whip one frozen banana, one-half cup pineapple, 1 cup nonfat plain yogurt, one-quarter teaspoon coconut extract and one-quarter cup nonfat milk. Serve with graham crackers.
this i could try but who really has coconut extract?

Nature’s Sorbet
Pour two cups of frozen blueberries into a bowl. Serve with a cup of fat free hot chocolate.
two completely different flavors mixing but i like!

WOW! no wonder I have stress; I wouldn't eat a majority of the stuff on here. Most def something to think about.

One Cent

So I was really productive last weekend, even got up early a few times! Everyone knows I like to plan and the holidays are kinda my forte :) I prep months ahead of time for it. So as everyone got to go home early the day after Thanksgiving and I had to hold down the fort, I worked on my Christmas cards. I found clear labels and printed my adress book out and return address out in a cute font and green ink and started presonalizing the cards that I picked out last year (yeah, I pick them out that far in advance). Last year I recieved these REALLY cute personalized photo stamps of Kenji and I that we were going to use this year. So I got everything ready on Saturday Kenji and I sat down and signed them all and added in our own notes. I took out the stamps and Kenji pointed out... "Those are only 41 cents, I'm pretty sure postage went up again." Really? DAMN IT!

So Kenji checked... yeah, it's 42 cents... a 1 cent increase in May 08?!?! *rawr*

Thus, my Christmas card project went from super cute to this...
They didn't even have cute 1 cent stamps... just these ugly lamp shades... I'm rolling my eyes as I write this in annoyance. BLAH whatever. No one really sends out Christmas cards anymore... we'll I do... and now they have the stupid one cent stamp attached.

OK I'm doing being a brat about it... enjoy the day!
