When I first heard the John Mayer was going on tour for his latest album "Battle Studies", I was uber excited! I saw him out at the Gorge a few years ago on his "Continuum" tour and due to extreme heat exhaustion I don't remember much of that day (which is probably a good thing). I debated for days about jumping online for the presale; I was trying to justify that $100 per seat on the floor was worth it. It was late November and Christmas was right around the corner so naturally money was tight. The presale date came and I pretended that I forgot all about it.
A few days later I was sitting in traffic on the Mercer Street exit on my way to work. I was listening to the morning chatter on KISS 106.1 w/ Jackie and Bender when they did a promo for the concert. BAH! Then they did the whole “caller 106 will win free tickets to the Battle Studies concert at the Key”. So… like a maniac I dialed and hung up on the busy tone um… 15 times? When the line started to ring I figured I was way too late… A voice answered and says “You’re caller 107.” DOH! “But hold on the line just in case.” I’m in the tunnel praying that I don’t loose service for the next ten minutes. I lost my mind when a familiar voice came on the line, “Myra? This is Bender – You’re caller 106. Congratulations!” FREE TICKETS! It was just meant to be!
After waiting 4 LONG months – I finally got to my seat at the Key last night and was rocked into a magical musical bliss by the one and only John Clayton Mayer *
sigh* The entire concert I swooned and smiled that giddy childish smirk that I do when I get excited. For 2 wonderful hours I was hypnotized by melody after melody of sweet music, guitar rifts, drum solos, and passion. It says something about an artist when you can feel their passion for what they do through their performance. It's inspiring. I don't give a shit about his personal life, choice of vocabulary, or his "after school activities". He's an artist that has fully entertained me since the first time I heard "83" on the Serendipity Soundtrack in 2001! Bravo for a magical performance...
